A Wedding Is Only One Day - Strong Relationships, Part 1

It's so easy to become completely wrapped up by the process of wedding planning. Many of us begin dreaming about our wedding day from a very young age, and several years of hopes, wishes, and plans can create some pretty high expectations. By the time we actually do get engaged, our minds are practically bursting with ideas for creating the perfect "big day."  In the midst of all the dress shopping, the appointments with the florist, and the gift registries, it's important to set aside to think about what a wedding really signifies. By saying "I do," you're pledging your life to your future husband. As a married woman, your life will no longer be completely your own. Your career, your family, your home... Every major aspect of your life will in some way be impacted by your emotional, spiritual, intellectual, and legal ties to your new husband. Being married will impact your life in more ways than you can possibly imagine. All your future maj

Our story ... married 15 years and counting!

I remember September 11, 1999 like it was yesterday. It was a cool day in Colorado Springs ... and it was our wedding day. The wedding was absolutely perfect ... 4 PM in the afternoon at the GORGEOUS Air Force Academy Chapel. We had around 125 guests, a small bridal party, an intimate ceremony, and then a HUGE party at the Marriott Hotel. Mike & Sandy's Wedding ~ September 11, 1999 Mike was an instructor at the US Air Force Academy and I was an engineer building web-based training at BAE Systems/Lockheed Martin. We were "older" for our first marriage ... just the way we wanted it.  I was 31 and Mike was 35. We had also both just completed our Master's degrees at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. And believe it or not, "back in the day" (which doesn't seem so long ago), the Internet was nowhere close to what it is today. While planning the wedding, I remember browsing online using search engines like Mamma.com, Dogpile.com, and

8 Questions To Ask Your DJ or Band

The music that's played during your wedding reception can make or break your celebration. How much your guests participate will largely depend on the music playing, and you'll be reminded of your reception every time one of your songs comes on the radio for years to come.  Different bands' and DJs' overall approaches will vary greatly from entertainer to entertainer. Regardless of whether you choose to hire a band or a DJ, you'll want to be absolutely sure they'll be able to meet (and exceed!) your expectations. Asking your potential bands or DJs the following questions will help give you a good idea of what type of performance they'll be able to provide - and whether or not they will be a good fit for your wedding and reception. How many hours of performance time are included in the agreement?  Make sure you and your band or DJ are on the same page about how many hours of music they'll be providing. Verify that they'll be covering as many hou

The Ring Bearer: Your Little Hero

If you have a soft spot for kiddos, or if someone close to you has a young boy between three and eight years old, your wedding won't be complete without a ring bearer! Being a ring bearer is a special honor in a young boy's life, and its responsibilities should not be taken lightly. If you're planning on having a ring bearer in your wedding, consider these tips to make his job (and yours!) much easier. Give Him A Buddy You and your fiance will be wrapped up in your own worlds on the day of the wedding, so p ick a groomsman to be the ring bearer's buddy on the big day. The groomsman can remind the ring bearer to use the restroom before the ceremony begins and can be in charge of holding the ring pillow until it's time for the young man to walk down the aisle. Assure the ring bearer that his buddy will be there for him all day in case he needs anything. Make Him Feel Comfortable It's important that your ring bearer feel confident in his role. Make sur
